1.5 million acres of Appalachia have been disturbed by surface mining.
We’re starting with a 7,000-acre coal mine in Eastern Kentucky.
Our mission is to create a framework for repurposing Appalachia’s reclaimed surface mines toward environmentally sustainable uses that support the surrounding communities.
An ecosystem of support.
Through cooperation with local partners and like-minded supporters, a renewed Appalachia is possible. We work with individuals, non-profits, and local businesses for the purpose of land, community, and cultural restoration.
Ready to renew Appalachia?
This is a community effort enhanced by each member involved. We are seeking out change-makers, entrepreneurs, artists, and leaders who want to contribute to the future of Appalachia. Whether you lead a non-profit that wants to participate in land restoration, a small business that can offer financial opportunities to the region, or want to share a story that elevates Appalachian culture, we would love to collaborate.
“The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope.”
— Wendell Berry
