Our mission is to create a framework for repurposing Appalachia’s reclaimed surface mines toward sustainable uses that support the surrounding communities.

Our philosophy is based on the 4 Returns for Healthy Landscapes framework (Return of Inspirational, Social return, Natural return, and Financial returns) for degraded ecosystem transformation.
Our Strategy
Our strategy is to use landscape-scale ecosystem restoration and leverage local cultural assets as the foundation for sustainable businesses and organizations in agriculture, recreation, light industry, health care, and the arts.
