Forest Nursery

Martin County local Ben planting acorns in the nursery.

With financial support from Terraformation, we a developed a tree nursery on our project site in Martin County.   Our principal focus is on the production of white oak seedlings given the concern for the long-term sustainable supply of white oak (see www.whiteoakinitiative.org). We focus our sourcing of seeds from local champion trees (old growth) to insure these genetics are made available to future forest generations.

As we grow we will introduce the production of other important restoration species for the Appalachian region.

This project will feed into our other reforestation efforts, and act as a foundation as we move toward more expansion into agroforestry.

Not only does this project help create new life in the form of tree saplings, but it also creates livelihood and job opportunities for Martin County locals.
